House Approves National Carry Bill

Once upon a time, Missouri gun-rights activists proudly upheld this state's right to pass and enforce its own laws. If you didn't like them, well, you were free to move to another state. That concept of states' rights used to be a bedrock philosophy of the Republican Party in its campaign against federal overreach.

Last Wednesday, the House of Representatives, amidst pressure from :proved a bill that would allow federal law to supersede the ability of individual states to enforce their own gun laws.

The bill would allow concealed carry permits to be issued, like driver’s licenses, making a permit from one state, valid nationally. Even six Democrats supported the bill and 14 Republicans voted against it.- perhaps mindful of being labeled hypocrites - The bill, HR 38, or the "Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017," effectively allows states like Missouri with the loosest gun laws to impose their will on states that impose tighter restrictions.

Missouri and Kansas are among the 12 states that allow permitless concealed carry, which means qualified adults can buy a handgun, conceal it, and under this bill go to any public place the law allows in other states, no questions asked. Illinois requires a permit. But under HR 38, Missouri would get to impose its laws on the people of Illinois, like it or not.

National concealed carry reciprocity “would end abuses in anti-gun states like California, New York and New Jersey and allow law-abiding concealed carriers to exercise their rights nationwide with peace of mind,” the NRA stated on its website. Although the NRA argues that Second Amendment rights should apply uniformly throughout the land, different states have conflicting interpretations.

Kansas, for example, expresses specific concerns about the existence of armed militias referenced in the Second Amendment. Kansas law states clearly: "The people have the right to bear arms for their defense and security, but standing armies in time of peace are dangerous to liberty, and shall not be tolerated."

In other words, Kansas specifically reserves the right to add clarity where the Constitution is too vague. Other states, such as California, impose far more restrictions on gun ownership, choosing to interpret the Second Amendment's reference to a "well-regulated militia" as meaning that the right to bear arms is not absolute.

But neighboring Arizona, like Missouri, seems to embrace a philosophy of the more guns, the better. Under HR 38, California would have to honor Arizona's concealed-carry laws.

Passing the Senate’s version SB 446, was submitted by Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) in February will be a different battle considering the measure would need 60 votes to pass and there are only 52 Republican Senators.

So get ready for a bunch of Fake News! as Michael Bloomberg, New York’s former Mayor has committed $25 million to finance a hysteria campaign against the bill, and Gabby Gifford, former House of Representative from Arizona who servived an assisination attack in January of 2011, where she was victim of a critical gunshot wound to the head, six people were killed and thirteen were injured in the shooting. said her group with spend “six figures” buying ads against eight Republicans in the House that supported and voted for the measure.

The Fake News has already begun: Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Penn.) tweeted "There are 12 states that don’t require permits for carrying guns. Under HR 38, someone from one of those states could travel to your community and walk right into a school zone with a loaded weapon, no matter what local laws say.”

When you look up fake news in the dictionary... that should be there as an example.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 clearly states that it does not supersede state law. Under the bill, permit-holders are still subject to any state or local laws that restrict carrying a gun in a school or a designated zone around it.

The wording of the bill reads: "This section shall not be construed to supersede or limit the laws of any state that permit private persons or entities to prohibit or restrict the possession of concealed firearms on their property, or prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms on any state or local government property, installation, building, base, or park."

So buckle up folks, the ride is going to get bumpy.

Three weeks ago we reported on the Lee Tran Park and Ride nearing completion at 11101 Summerlin Square Drive, Fort Myers Beach diagonally across Pine Ridge Road from the Walgreens. We reported that we tried to reach out to Lee Tran marketing manager Katie Meckley, but we're unable to reach her, first thing last Thursday morning we did hear from Katie via email.

She informed us Lee Tran will be a hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on location Monday December 18th at 10 am. and invited us to attend.

The grounds have improved much in the past three weeks, grass seeded areas are now lush green and the remainder of the parking lot has been finished to one hundred and twenty five parking spaces for beachgoers to park free and take the trolley to the beach. The trolley provides a stress-free way to travel to the beach and eliminates the need to sit in traffic and find parking on the island.

The ribbon cutting on Monday is open to the public but the facility is scheduled to be fully operational as of Tuesday, Dec. 19.

The Beach Trolley, as well as routes 130 and 50, will use the new Beach Park & Ride. Route 50 travels from the Beach Park & Ride to Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and the Route 130 travels through south Fort Myers between the Beach Park & Ride and the Edison Mall Transfer Center. The five and a half acre parcel new facility cost of more than $5 million, and was designed to resemble the Edison Mall Park n Ride.

It has space for five bus terminals with overhead canopy for covered walkways, passenger info kiosks, an employee office, restrooms and was planned to be able to expand it's parking to 240 spaces.

The facility offers WiFi, has a PA system, surveillance cameras and a detention pond, it will be fully ADA compliant and even offer electric car charging stalls

Josh Turner comes to Top Rocker Field at Six Bends Harley Davidson this Sunday, Dec 17th at 5:30 pm 9501 Thunder Road Fort Myers, FL 33912 . with special guests "A Thousand Horses" and "Brooke Eden". Doors to the venue will open at 4 PM.

Josh is one of country music’s most recognizable hit-makers, From his 2003 platinum-selling debut Long Black Train to his most recent 2017 Billboard No. 1 release, Deep South, Turner has garnered multiple GRAMMY, CMA, and ACM nominations. He has sold more than five million albums and garnered four No. 1 hits Turner’s hits include Your Man, Why Don’t We Just Dance, Firecracker, Would You Go with Me, All Over Me, and Time Is Love, the most played country song of 2012.

Turner released his sixth studio album Deep South in March featuring the #1 hit single Hometown Girl. Turner shares, “I’ve lived a lot of life since the release of my last album (Punching Bag) and I’ve learned a lot during the making of this album. I have grown as a writer and as an artist. It’s been cool to see this culmination of life and lessons and age boiled down into this project and I am really proud of Deep South. Turner wrote four of the 11 tracks on the highly-anticipated album including the title track and he is impressing fans and critics alike.

Rolling Stone declares that Turner, with his river deep baritone, delivers an eagerly awaited album from a country purist. PEOPLE Magazine says the Nashville veteran flaunts his deep bass on Deep South and that the album is an ode to down-home staples, from finding that perfect love on Hometown Girl to savoring the laid-back life on the title track.

Born in Hannah, S.C., Turner has been songwriting and performing since he was a young child, but he had very little access to music education, he realizes first-hand the importance of arts in the schools and in support of music education, he has created The Josh Turner Scholarship Fund to assist students interested in pursuing a future in arts/music.

A Thousand Horses: Drive across the rural South with the window down and the radio on. Hit scan and listen as muscular country, drawling rock, high gospel harmony, low-country blue and old school soul meld together into something special and distinct.

That’s the sound of A Thousand Horses and the exciting new band’s debut, "Southernality". The 13-track Dave Cobb-produced album has already given the Republic Nashville group their first major hit, with No. 1 single “Smoke.” Fans have responded to the unique hypnotic song in a way that shows the band’s all-genre mix of classic influences remains in the DNA of young music fans in the digital age.

“Subconciously, our audience grew up listening to those albums that we all love too and the reaction so far has just been exciting,” lead singer Michael Hobby said. “To me country music’s always been cool. I grew up on it. There’s a wider audience now. The lane seems to be a little bit wider for artists like Eric Church and Jason Aldean to push boundaries. People call it Southern rock or people call it country or people call it rock ‘n’ roll. To me it just feels like it’s all just music now” Joining Hobby as the creative core of A Thousand Horses are guitarists Bill Satcher and Zach Brown and bassist Graham DeLoach. Their friendship and similar interests have helped them create a distinct swamp boogie that fits right in with country music’s current party paradigm.

Brooke Eden, this young Loxahatchee, Florida native came up the artist ranks by paying her dues, performing in clubs and learning the craft of songwriting from the tender age of four. Lauded for her commanding stage presence and brassy straight-shooting style, Eden has performed over 500 shows in four years, including opening for superstars such as Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Sugarland and Florida Georgia Line.

In her brazen new single “Daddy’s Money,” Brooke Eden concisely lays out her doctrine: work hard, use what you have and never ever rely on someone else for your success. While the young singer has always had the support of her father and mother, she didn’t benefit from the parental pocketbook. In fact, as the daughter of a carpenter who moonlighted as a drummer in a country band, Brooke adopted the scrappy underdog mentality and stamped it all over her soulful and bluesy brand of country music. “My parents never had a lot of money, but they made sure I had their support behind me: ‘We can’t buy your way in, but you can do it — you just have to work a little bit harder,'” says Brooke, recalling her folks’ insight.

Clearly, the Florida native — who grew up midway between the sands of West Palm Beach and the swamps of the Okeechobee — was paying attention. “You don’t have to come from a super affluent family to become what you want to be,” she says. In songs like “Daddy’s Money” and the clever girl-power anthem “Sunday Morning,” as well as live onstage, Brooke is a confident and commanding vocalist, poised to follow in the footsteps of her chief country inspiration and BBR Music Group labelmate, Jason Aldean.

“I like strong voices,” says Brooke, who cites vocal influences ranging from Shania Twain to Etta James. “Women didn’t always get to sing about receiving respect, but those women commanded it. And with Jason, I just love how he mixes rock into country. As a musician, you’re constantly studying other artists and making things your own.”

General Admission is $35, (plus service charges) provide entrance to the concert only - bring a lawn chair or blanket. No, coolers, cans or bottles permitted. Food trucks on-site. Parking is available adjacent to Top Rocker Field - a parking fee will be charged at the venue. Pick of the Week

Happy Holidays to all !! In the Spirit of the Season, for this week's selection I took Peter to the Broadway Palm Dinner Theater production of "A Christmas Story."

We arrived just after 5:30, enjoyed a glass of wine at the Lobby Bar which was well decorated for the Holidays. The buffet had just started in the theater and was quite extravagant, carved citrus glazed ham, yankee pot roast, roasted turkey breast and all the fixings for a holiday feast. which I enjoyed every selection, also available was grilled salmon, tricolor cheese tortellini with two sauce selections and too many vegetables prepared in various manners and of course a great actual salad bar.

Check their website prior to going, the buffet selections change. www.broadwaypalm.com

Friday and Saturday evening productions also offered a choice of having the buffet bar or a choice of special chef selections which included Prime Rib, Chicken Cordon Bleu and Shrimp Scampi dinner. There were two separate desserts stations as well, one had too many pies and cakes for one person to try them all, but I enjoyed the coconut crème pie topped with fabulous chocolate mousse, the other was a "make your own ice cream sundae" buffet bar with multiple flavors to choose from and cookies and brownies to add to your creation. Peter had the prime rib dinner, medium rare, he loved it!

After finishing our dinner the table was promptly cleared and we ordered an after dinner drink for during the performance. The service is incredible, everyone is on their game.

Every seat in the house allows for a good view of the show. (Request to be sat at a table specifically the size of your party, unless you buy every seat at a particular table you could be sitting with others, we had a cozy table for 2) There are a few rows of very comfortable theater style seating in the back of the room, which by suggestion of the friendly bartenders, we moved to for the opening curtain where we pleasantly enjoyed the show .

This is the perfect venue for a night on the town with someone special or for the family. I highly suggest checking out the upcoming shows at the Broadway Palms Dinner Theater, we already purchased our tickets the next musical "Chicago" running after Christmas.

Alan Dershowitz Is Right On The Money!

Alan Dershowitz, a staunch Democrat, Constitutional Law College Professor and apparently, a man of integrity, said it all on FOX News on 12-3-17 when he said that California Senator Dianne Feinstein “has no idea what she’s talking about” when she said that President Trump will be impeached for the firing of former FBI Director Comey!

You see… Diane doesn’t understand that the President of the United States is actually the BOSS of the FBI (Director) and the DOJ (AG) according to the Constitution, Article 2! He is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the US! We need to read the Constitution, Dianne, if we are going to impeach someone and …oh yes …you need to be in control of BOTH Houses of Congress to impeach a President! Duh!

Also, it is very notable that there is NOT one word in our Constitution about any “Special Prosecutor” or the existence of any such a position…NOTHING. It was created by the EXECUTIVE BRANCH; that is …you guessed it …the President!

One can find many laws passed by Congress, and the Constitution that deal with the POWERS OF THE PRESIDENT and they are SUBSTANTIAL on ALL fronts…fact is, he is the most powerful man in the WORLD!!

President Trump has ELECTED to not interfere in the process that DOJ and the Special Prosecutor, are putting him and his cabinet through because he believes in the process, to an extent, and has nothing to hide, not even his birth place!

However, what we have now, with the firing of the FBI Assistant Director Strzok by Mr. Mueller, (4 months ago and we just hear about it!), is a real quagmire!!! Strzok was the “case agent” for the “Hillary matter” under Mueller’s friend Comey! Comey, Mueller, Mr.Rosenstein (First Deputy to the Attorney General Sessions), are close “buds” and apparently never told Congress, the Senate, the current AG Sessions, nor the President of the US that they ALL worked on and knew about the Russia, Uranium One, Bribery case where a Russian Official was CONVICTED of a 2 million dollar Bribe; in the SAME Uranium One deal that the infamous committee of 9 (including Hillary) signed off on. That resulted in 135 million dollars being paid to the Clinton Foundation! I guess they all thought none of that was pertinent to the Russian Collusion Investigation nor Russia obtaining 20% of our Uranium nor the appointment of a special prosecutor, Mueller, by Mr Rosenstein who then hired and fired Strzok!! My God, isn’t ANYBODY paying attention to what’s going on?!

I personally believe that it is time for the President to get involved; SUPERVISE HIS DOJ because SESSIONS won’t! That is, UNLESS there IS an ongoing FBI investigation on the Clinton matter! Hard to believe, though, with the entire top of the FBI being pretty corrupt!

I firmly believe as a citizen, with some common sense and 28 years of enforcing Federal Laws as an FBI Agent , that President Trump should call Sessions and the NEW FBI Director to his Office for a meeting with the President and some of his legal staff and advise them that they are to remove Mr. Rosenstein, Mr Strzok and FBI DADIC McCabe from positions of authority to “brick Agents and brick Prosecutor”. Then direct Mr. Mueller’s Special Prosecutor investigation to be placed on “hold”…no more spending, no more investigating, no more anything until the President can get a “handle” on the facts pertaining to all the allegations of conflict of interest, whether there even is probable cause to continue the Russian collusion, Special Prosecutor, and a multitude of other possible illegal, unethical acts by members of the DOJ, FBI and Mueller’s Special prosecutor brigade!

If the President wants to find out what REALLY happened in the FBI Hillary investigation, he needs to talk to the brick Agents who worked the cases on her. He will NOT get to the truth by talking to Comey, Rosenstein, FBI Strzok nor FBI McCabe or ANY top ADICs at the Bureau. They are circling their wagons! They have either lied or committed the bigger lie by not revealing the truth! Remember what I said before…NO real FBI Agent would ever interview a subject like Hillary in front of “a” lawyer let alone 5 lawyers…and no Agent worth his salt would have allowed Hillary to skate on the lie that she never received training on the handling of classified documents. Strzok did! He should have stuck her Non Disclosure Documents in her face and asked, “Is that your signature, Madame Secretary”?

If you want to find conflict of interest, obstruction of justice, “collusion”, look to the criminals who have been caught in lies about substantive matters. Matters like “training on the handling of the most classified documents we have”, SAP documents; the creation of a non-secure private server to avoid compliance with Fed Law (FOIA), money laundering, Hobbs Act, Wire Fraud, Treason, Espionage, are all substantive. Charging Flynn with a Martha Stewart violation of “lying to an FBI Agent”, is a joke! It’s a crime the FBI created without substance! You have Hillary, Uma Abedine, Cheryl Mills, Susan Rice, Podesta, Sullivan, and many more who have violated laws, rules, regulations that placed American lives in danger…and Mueller’s big hammer is he caught Flynn in a lie about NOTHING!

Mr. Flynn’s talking to ANY Russian official about anything was/is NOT a crime. Uma Abedine putting State Dept info on her personal computer at home in a file, just in case, where her husband, the Weiner, had access, IS several Felonies.

President Trump did what every president failed to do since 1995, here is the transcript of his speech recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel

“Thank you, when I came into office I promised to look at the world's challenges with open eyes and very fresh thinking, we cannot solve our problems by making the same failed assumptions and repeating the same failed strategies of the past, old challenges demand new approaches .

My announcement today marks the beginning of a new approach to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. In 1995 Congress adopted "The Jerusalem Embassy Act", urging the federal government to relocate the American Embassy to Jerusalem and to recognized that, that City and so importantly, is Israel's capital.

This act passed Congress by an overwhelming bipartisan majority and was reaffirmed by unanimous vote of the Senate only 6 months ago, yet for over 20 years every previous American president has exercised the laws waiver refusing to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem or to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's Capital City.

Presidents issue these waivers under the belief that delaying the recognition of Jerusalem would Advance the cause of Peace, some say they lacked courage but they made their best judgment based on facts as they understood them at the time. Nevertheless the record is in, after more than two decades of waivers we are no closer to a lasting peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.
It would be folly to assume that repeating the exact same formula, would now produced a different or better result, therefore I have determined that it is time to officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

While previous presidents have made this a major campaign promise, they failed to deliver. Today I am delivering! I've judged this course of action to be in the best interest of the United States of America at the and the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians. This is a long overdue step to advance the peace process and to work towards a lasting agreement. Israel is a Sovereign Nation with the right like every other Sovereign Nation, to determine its own Capital, acknowledging this is a fact, is a necessary condition for achieving peace.

It was 70 years ago that the United States under President Truman recognized the state of Israel, ever since that Israel has made its capital in the city of Jerusalem, the capital of the Jewish people established in ancient times. Today, Jerusalem is the seat of the modern Israeli government, it is the home of the Israeli Parliament 'The Knesset' as well as the Israeli Supreme Court, it is the location of the official residence of the Prime Minister and the president, it is the headquarters of many government Ministries. for decades visiting American Presidents, secretaries of state and military leaders have met their Israeli counterparts in Jerusalem as I did on my trip to Israel earlier this year. Jerusalem, is not just the heart of three great religions but it is now also the heart of one of the most successful democracies in the world, over the past seven decades the Israeli people have built a country where Jews, Muslims and Christians and people of all faiths are free to live and worship according to their conscience and according to their beliefs.

Jerusalem is today and must remain, a place where Jews pray at the Western wall, where Christians walk the Stations of the Cross and where Muslims worship at Al-Aqsa Mosque, however through all of these years presidents representing the United States have declined to officially recognize to Jerusalem, as Israel's capital, in fact we have declined to acknowledge any Israeli Capital at all, but today we finally acknowledge the obvious that Jerusalem is Israel's capital. This is nothing more or less than a recognition of reality, it is also the right thing to do, it's something that has to be done, that is why consistent with the Jerusalem Embassy Act, I am also directing the state department to begin preparation to move the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, this will immediately begin the process of hiring Architects engineers and planners so that a new Embassy when completed will be a magnificent tribute to peace.

In making these announcements I also want to make one point very clear, this decision is not intended in any way to reflect a departure from our strong commitment to facilitate a lasting peace agreement, we want an agreement that is a great deal for the Israelis and a great deal for the Palestinians. We are not taking a position of any final status issues including the specific boundaries of the Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem or the resolution of contested borders, those questions are up to the parties involved. The United States remains deeply committed to helping facilitate a peace agreement that is acceptable to both sides. I intend to do everything in my power to help forge such an agreement without question, Jerusalem, is one of the most sensitive issues in those talks the United States would support a two-state solution, if agreed to by both sides.

In the meantime I call on all parties to maintain the status quo at Jerusalem's holy sites including the Temple Mount also known as Haram al-sharif. Above all our greatest hope is for peace, the universal yearning in every human soul. With today's action I reaffirm my administration's long-standing commitment to a future of peace and security for the region. There will of course be disagreement and descent regarding this announcement, we are confident that ultimately as we work through these disagreements, we will arrive at a peace and a place far greater, in understanding and cooperation. This Sacred City should call forth the best in humanity lifting our sites to what it is possible, not pulling us back and down to the old fights that have become so totally predictable.

Peace is never beyond the grasp of those willing to reach it, so today we call for calm, for moderation and for the voices of tolerance to prevail over their purveyors of hate.

Our children should inherit our love, not our conflicts I repeat the message I delivered at the historic and extraordinary summit in Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

The Middle East is a region rich with culture spirit and history its people are brilliant proud and diverse, vibrant and strong, but the incredible future awaiting this region is held It bay by bloodshed, ignorance and terror. Vice President Pence, will travel to the region in the coming days to reaffirm our commitment to work with Partners throughout the Middle East to defeat radicalism that threatens the hopes and dreams of future Generations.

it is time for the many who desire peace, to expel the extremists from their midst. It is time for all civilized nations and people to respond to disagreement with regent debate, not violence, and it is time for young and moderate voices all across the Middle East to claim for themselves a bright and beautiful future.

So today let us rededicate ourselves to a path of mutual understanding and respect, let us rethink all the assumptions and open our hearts and minds to 'possible' and possibilities and finally I ask the leaders of the region, political and religious, Israeli and Palestinian, Jewish and Christian and Muslim, to join us, in the noble Quest for lasting peace.

Thank you, God bless you,

God bless Israel, God bless the Palestinians and God bless the United States!

thank you very much, thank you

President Trump

DNT TXT N DRV

Support is building across Florida for a stronger texting-while-driving law, but some black legislators will fight the idea, claiming that it would invite more abuses by police.

A broad coalition of groups representing police, sheriffs, parents, retirees, doctors, businesses and others is mobilizing to pass a bill to elevate texting from a secondary to a primary offense, meaning police could ticket drivers who text, without needing another reason to stop them.

"It's time to strengthen the law," argues the FL DNT TXT N DRV Coalition. "Drivers who choose to text and drive are a danger not only to themselves, but to everyone else on the road."

The original 2013 Florida law made texting while driving subject to a $20 fine with no points assessed on a driver's record.

But as distracted driving crashes continue to rise steadily year after year, advocates say it's time to give police more enforcement power to reduce traffic injuries and deaths caused by distracted driving.
