Driving down Estero Boulevard, you may have noticed some renovations are taking place at Fort Myers Beach’s Town Hall. For Years, the town’s government has worked in the back half of the building located at 2523 Estero Boulevard. For the better part of the last decade, the front half of the building has been unoccupied, formerly housing a Bank of America branch.

Hundreds of residents of the newly incorporated village of Estero were on hand at Estero High School on March 17th to witness the first meeting the Estero City Council. The evening began with pomp as the individual council members were formally welcomed into their new positions by both the public and fellow officials from around Lee County.

Ray Judah, Coordinator of the Florida Coastal & Ocean Coalition, spoke on the issue of water quality in Florida to the League of Women Voters this past Saturday. At a breakfast the League hosted at the Landings in Fort Myers, Judah criticized recent faltering the state has made in addressing various water issues that impact southern Florida.

Sanibel Elects Mayor, Vice Mayor

Over a month after Sanibel’s municipal elections, their city council has officially selected its mayor and vice mayor. On Tuesday, April 7th, the council held a special meeting where the group reelected Councilman Kevin Ruane to serve as the mayor. They also chose Councilman Mick Denham to serve as vice mayor. Both ran unopposed for the positions.

Heroes are the central focus of this year’s Fort Myers Beach Film Festival. From the heroes that fight the fantastic, to those that protect and serve, the theme of the festival celebrates the exceptional.
Starting this Wednesday, April 22nd, the Beach Theater will be host to screenings of independent films from both local and visiting talent. The festival’s first film screening will be "Heroes: Behind the Badge," a documentary about law enforcement officers who have found themselves in the line of fire and survived.
