Residents of Fort Myers Beach packed into the Council Chambers of their Town Hall this past Monday to witness the swearing in of the two newly-elected Councilmembers, Tracey Gore and Dennis Boback. With a beach full of people growing anxious over the speed at which the Grand Resorts development was being unveiled, the new Council was greeted warmly during the inauguration ceremonies.

The Town also honored its two outgoing Councilmembers - Dan Andre and Alan Mandel - thanking them for the years of service they put in towards FMB.

"Thank you for letting me represent you," Andre said, before receiving applause and a plaque from fellow councilmember Anita Cereceda.

The meeting proceeded with a Council reorganization, where the members chose among themselves a mayor and vice mayor. Cereceda started off this process by stating that she would not accept another nomination for the position of mayor, the title she held up until that meeting.

"It's time for a change," Cereceda stated.

Councilmember Summer Stockton nominated Boback for the position of mayor of FMB, with Gore seconding. With unanimous consent by the Council, Boback was named the new mayor of the Town of Fort Myers Beach, a position he had held before when he served his previous term on Council.
Stockton herself was nominated by Gore for the position of Vice Mayor, previously held by Andre, and was also unanimously approved for the position by the Council.
