Texas ranked first, which it has every year since the survey began in 2001. California remains the worst state for business, a rank it’s also held for years. In its “Best & Worst States for Business Survey of CEOs,” the magazine published the findings of its annual survey of nearly 700 CEOs, company presidents, and business owners in every state. Florida’s high ranking is due to the “consistently businessfriendly approach under Governor Ron DeSantis that crested during the past couple of years with his handsoff approach to Covid shutdowns,” the magazine says. The Sun Bay Paper Page 3 May 6, 2022 - May 19, 2022 If planting flowers that are popular with honeybees is something your brown thumb just won't allow, try this easy idea to help bees and other pollinators: Let your lawn flower. Instead of pulling dandelions and clover flowers from your lawn, let them be. Even though they are considered weeds, they are technically wildflowers. And they are flowers that are important food sources for bees. Just wait until the blooms go to seed before mowing the lawn. Whether it's ground turmeric, dried rosemary or fennel seed, consider making all of the seasonings in your spice rack organic. Conventional dried herbs and spices are grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides and are often irradiated to kill bacteria. Organic herbs and spices, on the other hand, are cultivated without chemicals and are rid of pests and germs through steam heat or a deep freeze. Many recipes call for unwaxed citrus fruit, especially if you are zesting the skin. But finding unwaxed fruit at your supermarket can be impossible. Growers spray wax to protect the fruit and to give it a sheen so it looks good in stores; while considered safe to eat, many people prefer to avoid it. To remove the wax at home, just microwave a lemon or orange for 20 seconds; use a brush to remove the melted wax. Rinse and wipe with a clean towel, and you'll be good to go. Most of us know items like vegetable scraps, fruit peels and eggshells can be added to the compost bin to biodegrade down into mulch. But did you know expired pantry staples like herbs, spices, jams, jellies and preserves can also be added? So long as they are made from all-organic materials, they, too, can break down. But when it comes to anything sweet, be sure to mix it with other organic materials - - like leaves and grass clippings -- to prevent insects from invading your compost bin. Composting It's a smart idea to give babies and toddlers a healthy diet of organic food, since pesticides and herbicides can harm their developing brains and nervous systems. But once they grow up and are running around the house, it's still important to think organic. Conventional apples, for example, have the highest level of pesticide residue of all commercially grown fruit, so organic apple sauce is much better for kids. The risk of harm to children is still higher than adults, since kids eat more fruits and veggies relative to their body weight. Baby Food We just had Arbor Day! One of the greenest things you can do to help the planet is to plant a tree. The National Arbor Day Foundation wants to make it easy for you to help the environment and beautify your yard. When you sign up for a sixmonth membership ($10), the nonprofit will send you 10 free trees to plant. You can also choose to send your free trees to a threatened rain forest or to one of the nation's national parks instead. To learn more, visit arborday.org. Danny Seo Arbor Day When buying a dozen eggs, look for paper pulp or cardboard cartons. The majority of egg cartons are already made from recycled materials, and they are also 100 percent biodegradable. Tear up the paper cartons and add them to your compost bin or even work them into your garden as mulch. Just break them into small pieces and use a small hand shovel or trowel to place them around plants. They'll break down quickly and help with drainage in the soil. GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL, OF NEWYORK, IS GOING TO BAN FOSSIL FUEL USE FOR HOME HEATING IN 2030… You “gotta” love ignorant Democraps…they really do live in Fantasy Land! All they have to do is wave their magic wand and … poof…fossil fuel will be gone! How will Hochul make up for the 80% Grid loss…Tinker Bell? Why didn’t someone come up with that great idea, sooner…because people that ignorant and in high level positions, are few and far between (thank God)?! Oh…AOL did say we must get rid of fossil fuel or, “the Earth will end in 12 years if we don’t”… sorry Kathy…that puts you on an IQ level with AOC!! IF you know what a “Garbage Disposal” is used for, please tell AOC, she doesn’t!! Kathy…DEFINE CLIMATE CHANGE for us, please! If you cannot…please rethink what the hell you’re doing! I’ll bet, you can’t! Is it Hot or Cold…wind or still…rain or sun or snow or sleet. Is it meteor strikes…or sunspots...is it volcano eruptions…is it Big Foot… CO2 or methane gases or maybe benzene…all of the above? Which of these do you believe you can control? If the US stops all gas discharges into the air and China and Russia continue to disregard what the rest of the World does,(like now) and continue to INCREASE releases into the air, how much of a difference will our sacrifices make? Science says, NONE! Makes you wonder who these Democrap Politicians talk to about physics, math and climate science. It sounds like Kathy has a direct line to world renowned scientists Al Gore, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi or that famous think tank, the UN IPCC. The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, is the United States FUNDED, group that is supposed to study IF there is Climate Change, CC! Please note the Climate Change designation and NOT Global Warming! So they seek out Universities, with starving, unemployed Phd Scientists…seeking Grant Money…for research. Former weather channel founder and Meteorologist, John Coleman, determined that the IPCC forced the Grantees to agree, “There is Global Warming”, and then agree to prove it, in a contract! The IPCC forced Colleges and Universities, who want their million dollar grants, to agree with the IPCC’s “preconceived findings” and then, set out to prove there is Global Warming…to keep their Grant!! But…what about “Climate Change” and if their study is only in the US…how can they predict anything for the World? They can’t!! According to NASA, in their 2015 Study Findings… the UN IPCC model is USELESS…so, simply put, they can’t! But that doesn’t stop the left…they only refer to the flawed IPCC reports and “most scientists say”! The sources for that little tidbit are honest Scientists who finally quit the IPCC after John Coleman exposed their scam! The Internet was awash with the fraud that Colemen uncovered! They were, for 18 years, and probably still are, “doctoring their books” but isn’t that the same thing Joe Biden did to the Ukraine…pay to play…Quid pro quo? If you think I’m kidding about the Grants the UN IPCC gives out…I’m not! John Coleman, actually obtained raw data and methods of research regarding the corrupt contracts that were used and the unscientific methods of collecting that data and he revealed all of some 18 years of fraud! Coleman’s findings are all over the internet! You won’t find any in the NY Times, Wash Post or CNN! That 2015, NASA study on the Antarctic Ice Land Mass with test borings revealed that the Ice Land Mass is thicker, colder, and bigger than it was 10,000 years ago AND the UN IPCC Model on, “Global Warming”, is useless, predicts nothing…their words and their study!! But we debunked the Global Warming nonsense and the Dems dropped that foolish argument and adopted new talking points... “Climate Change”, which is what the IPCC was supposed to study in the first place! Now, to demonstrate just how stupid these radical Democraps are …I’m going to debunk their entire ideology and talking point with one very simple question that you have never heard ANYONE ask, nor have you heard it answered nor defined or explained and that is …DEFINE CLIMATE CHANGE… WHAT EXACTLY IS THE CLIMATE CHANGE YOU PLAN TO GET UNDER CONTROL?! I am going to take the liberty of backing that up with this question as well… “What, Scientist told you that you can Change/Control, Climate Change? And… this one as well…Who says that Fossil fuel, CO2 and or Green Gases are the culprit…names please …because I would like to see if they all got their College Degrees, on line, for 50 bucks! I submit that NO legit Scientist would dare say CO2 is evil…not good for the Earth because he probably doesn’t believe F=MA or E = mc2. !! Just to further show some things do come around that go around…when Patrick Moore, the founder of Green Peace, quit Greenpeace…you heard of that didn’t you…he said quite a few things that directly contradict everything you anti-fossil fuelers say? Fact is many have quoted some of the nonsense Greenpeace put out about Carbon Dioxide and Green Gases! Patrick Moore also quit the lies and deception…didn’t hear that from the MSM? Well hear it now from yours truly…he did debunk most all that Greenpeace once claimed…and you know what, I want to thanks Mr Moore for what he did…it took guts!! Get ready because it’s what many of us have been saying ALL ALONG, from Mr Moore… *1 .The “Greenpeace Ship”, traveled the seas to save the world from fossil fuel with her mighty sails and rammed into whalers to save the whales…they did it with the two, huge GM Electromotive DIESEL FUEL engines that powered the electric motors that powered the entire ship. He never saw those sails raised…Mr Moore’s words! *2 Our plant life needs CO2 to survive and produce the oxygen we breathe…so much so…that we need to INCREASE CO2 in the atmosphere because… “Our trees need at least 250 ppm of CO2 to survive, any less and our trees will die”…we now have 450 ppm… however our trees need 2,000ppm to thrive!!! *3. Science has no idea how this happens but every year the “excess CO2” in the atmosphere drops into the Oceans, there-by benefitting Ocean plant life …then the fish… then you! *4. Here’s an eye opener…Mr Moore said that CO2 is so important to you and me…if you ever have plants that are not doing well , “put them in a greenhouse, put your car exhaust into that green house and close the doors”…it will knock your socks off how they will turn around! That’s from Patrick Moore…makes sense too, CO2 works, doesn’t it! And you want to become fossil fuel free… “Morons...I swear”, I apologize…I said that you are MORONS, it’s true…and I’m sorry for it! The only way you can replace fossil fuel energy, is to find REAL replacements…not Fairy Tales. The only VIABLE replacement there currently is for fossil fuel…IS NUCLEAR POWER… which… New York State OUTLAWS…GREAT! So Kathy and the rest of you who are exactly WRONG about fossil fuels and the good of CO2… you are not a little wrong but totally and completely WRONG and you are being fooled by fools and are being made to look like fools!… so step back…and think! What produces the air you breathe…Carbon Dioxide,CO2!!! Here’s some more food for thought; Scientists from the Heartland Institute put together a short, and to the point petition…this petition in its entirety is posted below. It was started in 1997 and continues to be signed. It is SIGNED BY 31,487 AMERICAN SCIENTISTS, INCLUDING 9,029 PHDs on Global Warming: _____________________________ PETITION We urge the United States Government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December,1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind. There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth’s atmosphere and disruption of the Earth’s climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth. therightsidejgarydilaura.com J.Gary DiLaura FBI RED Retired Extremely Dangerous The Sun Bay Paper Page 4 May 6, 2022 - May 19, 2022 The Right Side Pure Insanity at Its Finest !

Every Democrat running for every office in the United States echoes a standard campaign theme: "I plan on taxing the rich and spreading the wealth around." They chant, the rich do not "pay their fair share of taxes and it is time that they do." They preach, "It is time to reduce income inequality." Their gospel is, "Those who have benefited the most should help those who have benefited least." Who do leftists consider rich when they obsess about raising taxes? The Tax Policy Center says about 10% of U.S. households have incomes over $200,000. The top fifth of them pay 69% of all federal taxes. If "the rich" already pays more than their fair share, why does the left always demand that they must pay more? This is the paradigmatic liberal axiom: "It is time that we punish the rich." Joe Biden ran for president on a "tax the rich" platform, and eked out a victory over the populist Donald Trump. But he toned down the rhetoric for a few months while lobbying for his "Build Back Better" pipedream. But in true progressive form, he broke the bad news to taxpayers last week. As Congress unwrapped Biden's 2023 wish-list, it was "Christmas in Spring" for Republicans. Biden's 2023 fiscal budget re-proposes all of the bad ideas that Congress won't pass and adds a new twist – "the coveted liberal wealth tax." Biden is obviously pivoting further left to fire up sullen progressives for the midterm elections. This gives them new ammunition to assail the evil GOP. Biden's wish-list calls for increasing the top marginal income tax rate to 39.6% from 37%. It would also nearly double taxes on capital gains to 39.6% for people earning over $1 million. This would be the highest tax rate on investment gains since the 1920s. The rate has never exceeded 33.8%. The left calls this a “billionaire tax,” which is the standard progressive narrative. But billionaires are not the only ones punished. It applies to income and "increased annual value of assets." This taxes "unrealized capital gains," which are not taxed until assets are converted to income. In other words, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders will be getting the wealth tax they have been begging for. This tax scheme will enormously complicate the tax code and creates huge investment distortions. Since liquid assets make up less than 20% of their wealth, investors will have an incentive to hold liquid assets, such as real estate, to avoid liquidating stock to pay taxes. Rather than sell stock to diversify or reinvest, investors will be forced to sell stock to pay taxes on unrealized capital gains. In simple terms, this means that hundreds of successful entrepreneurs and small business owners, who accumulated wealth over decades through innovation and hard work, will be punished for their success. Any tax that the left proposes always "applies to a few," and spreads to millions overnight. News of Biden's proposed tax hike swept through investment circles like an EF5 tornado. The S&P 500 index immediately dropped 1%, the sharpest Wall Street decline this year. Fund manager Thomas Hayes exclaimed, "If we thought this had a chance to pass, the market would have dropped 2,000 points. There is another fly in the ointment in Biden's tax scheme; it is illegal! The Constitution states that Congress may only impose “direct taxes.” Although the 16th Amendment established an income tax, unrealized capital gains are not income. In other words, Biden is taxing "anticipated income?" Wealthy Americans could face an overall federal capital gains tax rate of 43.4%, including the 3.8% net investment tax on individuals with income of $200,000 or more ($250,000 married filing jointly). Currently, those earning more than $200,000 pay a capital gains rate of an average high of 23.8% The Tax Foundation's Erica York said, Biden's tax increase would drive U.S. capital gains taxes to the top of global charts. Capital gains taxes in Europe average 19%. Denmark had the highest rate at 42%, followed by France and Finland at 34%. These countries finance socialized medicine and generous entitlements the U.S. does not have, which makes Biden's tax hikes even more offensive! Biden's tax increases would generate over $1 trillion, which is on top of his $2.3 trillion jobs and infrastructure plan that many Americans are now rejecting due to rising prices and inflation. This will likely mean that Democrats will be forced to push this through Congress using reconciliation. That would mark this as "a party-line tax increase on the rich" for Democrats seeking reelection. York added, in the states and cities that assess their own capital gains levy, Biden's plan would push the total capital gains rate to over 50%. The rate would rise to 56.7% in California, 58.2% in New York City and 57.3% in Portland, Oregon. He said investors will take their capital elsewhere. White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden had not yet finalized his tax plan, but stressed he promises to make the wealthy and companies pay for all new government programs. "His view is that all tax increases should be on the backs of the wealthiest Americans who can afford them." Although Biden promised not to raise taxes on those making under $400,000 a year, one White House spokesman said Biden is looking at capping the interest deductions for homeowners. By decreasing this traditional real estate tax write-off, this will affect every person who owns a home. Ralph Nader told us, "Your best teacher is your last mistake." Joe Biden endorsed southerner Jimmy Carter for the presidency over the party’s northern candidate. After suffering through four years of Carter's failures, Biden watched Ronald Reagan take office and turn the economy around by cutting spending and taxes. One must wonder, was Joe Biden asleep during the Reagan years? It took Jimmy Carter four years to destroy the U.S. economy, but Biden did the same in under a year. With the Fed raising interest rates, runaway inflation, and investors running scared, a tax increase of this amplitude will domino into a recession. This will complete Joe Biden's "make-over" into the second coming of Jimmy Carter. And who said, "We can't turn back the hands of time?" Biden gave us double digit inflation, labor shortages, a broken supply chain and high energy prices. All of America realizes, except Joe Biden and progressives: "Nobody can tax and spend their way to prosperity." Biden's "punish the rich" tax increase will result in less investment, a loss of jobs, decreased capital gains taxes, and a major recession. Biden says he learned his politics from Barack Obama. Well, it looks like he learned economic policy from Jimmy Carter. Its déjà vu all over again for America. Scientists have discovered six new species of frog the size of a thumbnail in the forests of Mexico, with one earning the distinction of Mexico's smallest frog. All six species are smaller than a British 1p coin -- around 15mm long -- when fully grown. Adult males of the tiniest of these species, named Craugastor candelariensis, grow to only 13mm. The newly discovered species are known as 'direct-developing' frogs: rather than hatching from eggs into tadpoles like most frogs, they emerge from the eggs as perfect miniature frogs. And they're so small that they're right at the bottom of the forest food chain. "With millions of these frogs living in the leaf litter, we think they're likely to play a hugely important role in the ecosystem as a source of food for everything else, from lizards to predatory birds," said Jameson. The discovery, by researchers at the University of Cambridge, London's Natural History Museum, and the University of Texas at Arlington, is published in the journal Herpetological Monographs. "Until now these new species have gone unnoticed because they're small and brown and look really similar to other frogs," said Tom Jameson, a researcher at the University of Cambridge's Department of Zoology and University Museum of Zoology, who led the study. "Their lifestyle is utterly fascinating," he added. "These frogs live in the dark, humid leaf litter of the forests, which is like a secret world -- we don't really know anything about what goes on there. We don't understand their behaviour, how they socialise, or how they breed." The study involved gathering almost 500 frog specimens from museums around the world, which had been collected in Mexico, and using new methods to categorise the relationships between them. Using DNA sequencing, the team sorted the frogs into groups based on how similar their genes were. Then CT-scanning was used to create 3D models of the frogs' skeletons, so that physical details could be compared. These two very different lines of evidence revealed six new species of frog. "Frogs in the group known as Craugastor are very difficult to tell apart, so scientists have long suspected that more species may exist. We're really excited to have discovered six new Craugastor species that are completely new to science," said Jameson. The new species have been named Craugastor bitonium, Craugastor candelariensis, Craugastor cueyatl, Craugastor polaclavus, Craugastor portilloensis, and Craugastor rubinus. Jameson is particularly pleased with the name cueyatl -- it means 'frog' in the indigenous language, Nahuatl, spoken in the Valley of Mexico where this species was found. "We chose the name cueyatl to honour the rich human history of the Valley of Mexico, and the local people who have probably known these frogs far longer than we have," he said. Known as 'micro-endemics', some of the newly discovered frogs may occur only in one small area, such as a hilltop in a certain part of Mexico. This makes them incredibly vulnerable. "We named Craugastor rubinus after the garnet mines in the hillside where they're found," said Jameson. "Sadly, it will only take the expansion of one mine and these frogs could be gone." Habitat loss can also result from climate change. And the frogs are threatened by a deadly fungal disease, chytridiomycosis, that's wiping out amphibian populations across the world. But the researchers are hopeful that there's a future for their tiny frogs. They have identified key protected areas throughout Mexico where the six new species live -- and now hope to work with the government and NGOs in Mexico to connect these areas together. "These frogs potentially play a really important role in the forest ecosystem," said Jameson. "We need to make sure that they don't just get wiped off the map because no-one even knows they're there." He thinks there are probably many more species of Craugastor frog still to be discovered, simply because nobody has had a chance to look for them yet. "We've looked at the maps of where the original expeditions went looking for frogs in Mexico, and found whole valleys and river systems where nobody went," he said. "Because the tiny frogs live in tiny areas we can be pretty confident there's a whole bunch of other undiscovered species there -- all we have to do is go and find them." University of Cambridge Six New Species of Tiny Frog Discovered in Mexico Environmental Page 6 Do You Realize Just How Bad Going Green Is ? Just wanted to share to new green deal and all you electric car people. The top is an oil well, where 100% organic material is pumped out of the ground, taking up around 500 to 1000 square feet. Then flowlines safely carry the oil to refineries, as far as Chicago. The bottom is just one of lithium supply mines where entire mountains are eliminated. Each mine usually consists of 35-40 797 cat haul trucks along with hundreds of other large equipment. Each 797 uses around half a million gallons of diesel a year. So, with an inventory of just 35 these haul trucks alone are using 17.5 million gallons of fuel a year for just one lithium site. So, next time you are driving your electric car thinking you are saving the environment remember that it came at a cost of entire mountains, thousands of square miles of land and billions of gallons of oil and fuel. I get we need to save the planet but we are not there technologically yet and electric is not the answer.

LipoMelt Lipomelt is a safe, pain free alternative to liposuction. The LipoMelt treatment is 100% non-invasive and does not cause any bruising or scarring. Clients will see a reduction of inches after their very first session; best results are achieved with multiple sessions over a few weeks time. How does LipoMelt work? You lay down and two distinct frequencies of unique light emitted from LED’s cause the fat to emulcify (melt) in the cell membranes, temporarily altering the permeability of the cell wall. This brief change allows some of the melted fat contents to seep out to where it can then be processed by the body. What happens to the fat? After being released, the fat is broken down into free fatty acids and glycerol and enter the blood stream via the Lymphatic system. Once in the blood stream, the fatty acids can be quickly eliminated by the body. What areas of the body can be treated? The LipoMelt treatment can be effectively used on essentially every part of the body where localized fat deposits exist that are resistant to diet and exercise. This includes the waist, hips, upper legs, thighs and upper arms...even the neck.. Does LipoMelt help with cellulite and loose skin? Clients undergoing LipoMelt have noticed an improvement with cellulite as well as skin tone and texture. Do I have to follow a diet? No diet changes are required, but you can expect better results if you reduce your caloric intake even just a little and increase your water consumption to 6- 8 glasses a day. Meanwhile, reducing alcohol consumption will reduce calories and help the liver. One Less Bite! The key to weightloss is making a change in your diet that is maintainable. A nutritionalist once told me if you eat 2,000 calories of food a day and burn off 2,000 calories of food a day, at the end of the month, or at the end of the year you won’t gain or lose any weight, but if you add the extra calories of one bowl of soup per week to that balance ... at the end of one year you will gain 5 lbs! Soooooo if you only remove the calories of one bowl of soup per week to your intake you lose 5 lbs in a year.... Moral of that story is make small changes that are maintainable! Like not eating another bite once you are full, you can eat the rest later as a snack, (eating often, small portions is better for our metabloism) I love my burgers and still eat them but usually take almost half of it home. (Who needs a 8 or 10 oz. burger, we used to think a quarter pounder was a big burger and that is only 4 ounces!!! and YES ... on a bun... it’s not a burger if it’s not on a bun!) Oh... I also still eat fries... it’s true! but only eat a hand full, I usually ask for half as much as they normally send out and don’t end up eating all of those either! (and no, I won’t take them home... I don’t enjoy cold or reheated mushy fries) Do I have to exercise? Each of your sessions includes 20 minutes on our “shaker” machine to stimulate circulation and help remove the fat that has been released. The best part of this system is seeing results! Fitting int a smaller size motivates you to have one less bite, or walk more, improving results! I had a squamous cell growth removed, and it was no big deal. However, a mole that had to be biopsied for melanoma (it turned out to be benign) has my doctor worried. Dear Reader: We’re glad to hear your biopsy results came back negative for melanoma, and we can understand your doctor’s concern. Melanoma isn’t the most common skin cancer, but it is the most serious. This type of cancer can grow quickly and aggressively spread to other parts of the body. Although melanoma accounts for just 1% of all skin cancer diagnoses, it causes the majority of skin cancer deaths. Early diagnosis and treatment is crucial. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer, with about 9,500 new cases diagnosed each day. More people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the United States than all other types of cancer combined. Like all cancers, it occurs due to abnormal and uncontrolled cellular growth. Squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas, the first- and second-most common types of skin cancer, are named after the types of skin cells from which they arise. They tend to grow slowly, and it is uncommon for them to spread. Melanoma arises from melanocytes, cells that produce a brown pigment called melanin. Researchers have discovered that unlike other cancer cells, which have to “learn” how to spread through the body, melanoma cells are equipped with a cellular mechanism that lets them start spreading immediately. That’s why this cancer is so deadly. Risk factors for melanoma include a history of sunburn, excessive exposure to UV light, the use of tanning beds, having fair skin, a family history of the disease and having a large number of moles or certain types of unusual moles. Normal moles generally have a consistent color -- usually tan or brown -- and uniform borders. When moles change shape or color, become irregular, get crusty or bleed or grow larger, or when new moles or skin discolorations appear and change, it can be cause for concern. A mole that looks markedly different from the other moles on your body can also indicate something is wrong. These warning signs have been turned into a memory prompt, the “ABCDE rule”: -- Asymmetry: The halves of a mole or birthmark don’t match. -- Border: Edges are irregular, jagged or blurred. -- Color: Color is irregular or patchy, sometimes with areas of red, pink, white or blue. -- Diameter: Moles larger than 1/4 inch across, although melanomas can be smaller than that. -- Evolving: A mole or birthmark that begins to change shape, color or size. Studies show that regular sunscreen use can cut melanoma risk in half. Considering that the number of melanoma deaths is expected to increase by 22% in 2019, this bit of self-care can be a life-saver. Note and keep a record of the moles on your body and how they change. If you see any of the ABCDE characteristics, contact your doctor immediately. It might be the biggest giveaway in American history. President Joe Biden wants to cancel more than $1 trillion of outstanding student loan debt. Biden has already delayed for more than a year student loan repayment, and under his new rules, most delinquent and deadbeat borrowers would NEVER have to repay. What a deal for the people who never paid a dime back of the tuition money they owe to Uncle Sam. This plan makes suckers out of the millions who have felt honorbound to pay off their debts. My wife spent years after graduating from college diligently writing checks to pay off the tens of thousands of dollars of loans. That's the way it works when you borrow money and you've signed a commitment to pay the money back. Think about what would happen if this loan repayment policy were to be implemented. Who would ever pay off a student loan ever again after this blanket forgiveness program? Who would benefit? The most recent Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances found that only 22% of families had student loan debt and that "student debt has consistently been disproportionately held by higher-income families." So this is a giveaway to the financially successful students and families paid for by middle-class workers, millions of whom didn't go to elite universities in the first place. Once student loans move to "free college" for everyone, university tuitions, which are already soaring at two to three times the inflation rate, would race further ahead of all other consumer prices. When I attended the University of Illinois in the early 1980s, the tuition was $1,000 a semester. Now, it's closer to $12,000 a semester. Where'd all the money go? The Biden administration has misdiagnosed the fundamental problem here. To wit: Colleges and universities have become fat, flabby and inefficient money burners with no accountability. No oversight. No getting rid of bad teachers and professors. No looking under the hood to see where extraneous costs could be axed. No demand on tenured professors to teach one or two classes a year. If student loan debt has to be retired, why should taxpayers pick up the tab? Why not force universities with massive endowments, in many cases in the tens of billions of dollars, to use that money to pay off the debts students incurred while they received virtually worthless, useless sociology, gender studies and psychology degrees? This would incentivize schools to cut their tuitions and their costs, something the academic elites are desperately trying to avoid. Democrats think that buying votes this November by making college essentially free will win them elections. But there is no free lunch, and there is no free college. It's just a question of who pays the piper. And it shouldn't be YOU. It was an overreach by the court as it is supposed to act as the protector and interpreter of the Constitution. Amendment X states: The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. I realize this is only a draft opinion but this has been a long time coming for it to be overturned. The court had exceeded its constitutional authority ruling on something the States need to handle. Rebecca Martin Online reader Ed.Note: I too realize this is only a draft but honestly, I have mixed feelings about the potential overturning of R v W. while I don’t personally believe in abortions, I also don’t believe that the government should be able to tell someone what to do with their body, (this includes wearing masks but that is another discussion) but some people use it as birth control, not using prevention methoda and abort if pregnant and that is wrong. I also don’t believe that someone should be able to do it after a heartbeat has been detected, which most experts place well after the first trimester at 5 1/2 - 6 weeks, at that point you have a person and it should be illegal. And what about these states that allow abortion until birth and some even after birth? I’m sorry, that is not just ridiculous! That is murder! Having said all that, I am concerned that some states will be making all abortion illegal, it concerns me because making something illegal doesn’t make it stop, it will continue on the ‘black market’ making it more dangerous to those who seak it out even in the first trimester. It is a complicated subject and these are just some of my thought on it. I wasn’t going to put this letter in but civil discourse is one of the most important reasons for publishing a paper.... Got this off Facebook but had to share with your readers: It takes between 21 to 35 days for a Russian oil tanker to get to U.S. ports and be offloaded. It also takes 35 to 60 days for a tanker from the Middle East to make the same trek. It takes about 120 hours to load the tanker and up to 24 hours to unload and quite often it takes up to three days before unloading the tanker can even begin. The average tanker burns 2,623 gallons of diesel fuel per hour. It is said that 22.38 pounds of carbon dioxide are created from burning one gallon of diesel fuel. So, in only one hour, a tanker ship hauling oil to a refinery in the U.S. creates 58,757.5 pounds of CO2 into our atmosphere. Then considering the average travel time of the tankers before it even arrives, it would result in over 27 million tons of CO2 per trip escaping into our atmosphere. In comparison, your family car burns between six and nine tons of CO2 per year. Without considering all the equations necessary to account for all the tankers coming to the U.S. each year, let alone our own exports, will someone please explain to me how drilling our own oil and moving it through pipelines, along with importing oil from Canada via pipeline, will not be more environmentally “green” for the world? Larry Cooper Ed. Note: Unfortunately Larry, shutting down our the pipeline and our self sufficient energy production never made any sense, neither did opening our borders during a pandemic! it’s just the Left’s radical adgenda to hurt this country. One of our goals is to help some more of them wake up! The Sun Bay Paper Page 10 May 6, 2022 - May 19, 2022 AModern Day Tower of Babel Our world is full of chaos, confusion, and division. And it’s getting worse. I’ve been searching for a way to address a topic I think about often, but on which I’ve seldom offered my thoughts. I’m referring to our deteriorating “common language.” I came upon an article that described social media in terms of the Tower of Babel. I liked it, but even that excellent equivalency sells short the modern relevance of the Tower of Babel event. According to Genesis 11, citizens of the world saw themselves as sophisticated and self-righteous. Steeped in their collective arrogance they decided to build a tower to heaven “to make a name for ourselves.” God rejected their ideas, confused their language, and spread them over the face of the earth. Does Babel have something to say about modern man’s arrogance in applying their knowledge and technology to control our world? Alternatively, is it communicating God’s willingness to intervene in human affairs – even divisively? Maybe it’s just an attempt to explain a great mystery of that time in history. Perhaps all of those have relevance today. The word “Babel” is derived from the root meaning “to confuse.” The biblical account tells of a time when people’s words and language became confused. Words have the ability, through effective communication, to help the world move in unison, in the right direction. We haven’t kept our common language dependably consistent, “whence cometh” a modern Babel – chaos, manipulation, and division. Our language deterioration seems closely related to another modern phenomenon commonly referred to as “moral relativism.” If you ask whether an activity is right or wrong, guided by moral relativism, the answer has become, “Well, that depends,” which begs the question, “Depends on what?” To which no ready answer is given. A manifestation of this showed up in the recent Supreme Court approval hearings for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. She was asked to define the term “woman.” She deferred. Simple words are for communicating, sending accurate messages, or so we thought. More than ever in our history, definitions have become similar to the “moral relativism” concept I mentioned above. Attempts to find a definition too often end up with “that depends.” Who would have guessed simple and clear words like “woman” or “man” would develop ambiguous definitions? Similarly, consider the bitter arguments occurring regarding claims of systemic racism, or the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in schools. Important language surrounding that debate has been introduced in which some participants have redefined the meaning of words critical to effectively discussing the issues. Leaders of the CRT and “antiracism” movements, such as Professor Ibram X. Kendi, author of “How to be an Antiracist,” often seem to be talking a different language. For example, Kendi’s definitions for “racism,” “antiracism,” and “equity” can be confusing. Open Kendi’s book and you’ll find a mini glossary before most chapters. This is presented to introduce his personal definition for words and phrases, many of which are quite common, but with different traditional definitions. The revised language for his theories is better described as his “lexicon.” No wonder those involved in this debate talk past each other. They’re using different dictionaries. The result is obvious confusion, if not outright chaos. The bottom line is that our common language has lost part of its usefulness. Some of the loss was contrived by opportunists. The breakdown of our language has led to manipulation, often related to political and public policy issues. People deserve the truth, not vague, nuanced, or misleading information. We’re entitled to accurate facts for arriving at objective conclusions. Successful cultures demand effective communication. Language must be able to clearly convey context and perspectives. Words should convey important emotions and opinions. Watered down language and vague or ambiguous meaning for words too often elicit no more reaction than an old fashioned “cuss” word. We’re rapidly moving in that direction. We are indeed experiencing a modern day “Babel effect” – chaos and confusion. Let’s return to the days when the word “woman” didn’t convey an abstract concept. myslantonthings.com Steve Bakke, Fort Myers Why Are They Killing Innocent Civilians? The photos coming out of Ukraine, coupled with eyewitness accounts, leave no room for doubt. Terrible things are being done. The bodies are not just those of soldiers. Civilian casualties are skyrocketing. This is not inevitable. This is murder. Why? Who is giving the orders? Of course Russian President Vladimir Putin and his generals are to blame for the acts of the Russian army. But did they order this? Have they tried to stop it? And if they do try, will it stop? Reports of random shootings of civilians for no reason at all raise terrible questions about the human condition. Is this how human beings treat each other when they know they will get away with it? The banality of evil, brought to you by social media. Ukraine is far away. We should be grateful every day that our children can play outside instead of hiding in basements, that the electricity works, that our husbands and sons, brothers and fathers, have not left home to take up arms to defend our country. I cannot imagine the lives of the mothers, trying to protect their children from things that no child should face. Babi Yar, the famous mass grave site, lies in Ukraine. Ukrainians are no strangers to senseless violence. But that was then -- so long ago, we like to think; never again, we say to ourselves. Yes, again, we must admit. "More killing in Ukraine," "Mass graves found," the headlines say, before reporting on weather and sports and the like. Not so different from the newspapers of the 1930s, reporting on Hitler's persecution of the Jews. We didn't know, we tell ourselves now, although that is not entirely true, not at all. We knew enough and did too little and the very existence of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum is a pledge that next time will be different. Is it? The president is asking for much more military aid to Ukraine, and this is one of the very few things both parties seem to agree on. We should send weapons. And we will. And there will be more killing, because this is war. We must do more than send weapons, though. Somehow, whether through international law, diplomacy, sanctions and shame, we must make clear that Russia has stepped over the line not only by invading a free people but also by committing mass murder of civilians. And for the latter, if not also the former, they deserve the fullest condemnation the world can offer. We try to stay out of territorial disputes. Fair enough. But can we stay out of genocide? And are more weapons the only answer? What about more speech, Elon Musk? This is social media's first big war. So far, it has failed to make a big difference. Russians remain in the dark about what their country is doing, the victims of state control. National walls are still blocking free press. Whether the Russian people know what their army is doing is one of the big unanswered questions; what they can do about it in a repressive society is another. The revolutions brought about by social media elsewhere seem very far away. How can those walls be broken down? My grandfather left Kyiv to escape antisemitism a century ago. When he couldn't get into this country, he went to Argentina and later managed to come to Massachusetts. So there but for the grace of God go I. My family managed to escape the Russians and the Germans. My good fortune weighs on me. Shouldn't we be doing more? But what? You tell me. Susan Estrich Tower of Babel.
