Volume 7 Issue 24_Sun Bay Paper

SOMETHING NEW & DIFFERENT !! The Sun Bay Paper Page 16 March 25, 2022 - March 31, 2022 It’s true, “The Rude Shrimp Company” got their start making Shrimp Tacos among other specialties in their food truck and they quickly found it to be successful, so the four friends stepped it up a notch and opened an actual brick and mortar location… a seasonal business, carved out of two shipping containers with mostly "open air concept" outdoor seating in small Nebraska town. After vacationing all around Florida, a few years ago, they found Fort Myers Beach, fell in love with the people and T.J. said, “wow, this really would be a good place to open a Rude Shrimp!” Lisa said, “ya, maybe someday.” They found the listing for Edelweiss Burger via an internet search around Thanksgiving of 2021, found the location to fit in their open air concept and jumped on it immediately, "and here we are!” The Rude Shrimp Co is their first venture in their own restaurant but T.J. has been cooking all his life, he just loves to cook ever since helping his mom in the kitchen when he was 4 years old and he’s been cooking ever since. T.J. is all about the food, I caught up with him at the restaurant to get some info for this article as he was preparing for their upcoming Grand Opening and he said “If you can eat or drink it, I’m your man”. He says his wife, Lisa is his best critic, and together they have a fantastic menu and concept: Great tasting unique food, a fun atmosphere with top-notch customer service.....a winning combination! Creating a comfortable, relaxing and welcoming Island vibe is only the beginning, “we want to be more of an experience for our patrons....we want people to sit down, be on island time - enjoy some drinks, apps, and Onolicious grindz!” A great atmosphere and Island time is all good but, it’s the food that steals the show, starting with the Stuffed Shrimp. Plump, tender local shrimp are butterflied and filled with crab, veggies, and breadcrumbs, then placed upon a sticky rice pilaf. But the icing on the cake is the rich, peppery bienville sauce. Nothing is more visually appealing than the Garlic Shichimi Chicken, which arrives in a hollowed-out half pineapple. Tender cuts of chicken thigh mixed with shishito and red bell peppers, pineapple and spicy shichimi sauce that punches your tastebuds with garlic, sweetness, and just the slightest bit of heat. The Rude Tacos, an excellent version of a shrimp taco, with large, spicy crustaceans, cilantro lime rice, cheese, lettuce, pineapple salsa and a delectable avocado sour cream blend. When reading their menu, you’ll find some dishes will be tagged with “RUDE” in front, signifying these as their ‘signature’ selections, and will be spicy! I asked them what their favorite food item on the menu was: “That's a tough one! We get asked this all the time, I love the RUDE Shrimp Tacos! Lisa said. TJ says the tacos are what got them started, but he's proud of the Mandoo. (Homemade pork & shrimp pot stickers with vegetables, a sweet soy glaze, scallions, on a bed of rice pilaf, pan fried and steamed to perfection) “I also love the shrimp bisque,” Lisa added, “TJ has perfected it...We won Nebraska food truck wars with that bisque! We are going to add some key lime mussels to the menu soon too, and they are ridiculously good! However, as crazy as it sounds, TJ's Italian fare is some of the best food he makes, ha!” Being Italian myself, I’m hopeful we’ll be able to find some specials available from his Italian recipes in the future! They plan to open Tue-Sun for lunch and dinner (11:30-9PM). It may take a couple of weeks to get into full gear based on staffing etc., but that's their goal. Their Grand Opening is this Sunday, the 27th serving dinner only from 5-9 PM. Come out and welcome our new neighbors on the beach! With visually enticing dishes to begin your experience… … followed by your taste buds, having a party, topped off with soothing island music and some sand between your toes you brought up from the beach, ……… … your senses will be engulfed … almost overwhelmed …. And you’ll lean back and realize… ……you’re glad you did!
